This is a wine without compromise, showing the true identity of Barolo in all its glory. A majestic wine which has gained the recognition of peers.
For those who understand Barolo, Vigna Elena is a wine without compromise. Elvio Cogno, his daughter Nadia and the new man in charge, son-in-law Walter Fissore, respect and with meticulous attention follow all the experience gained from ancestors to create a real honest Barolo, a Barolo for its most traditionalist supporters.
Tasting Notes
Rich, brilliant garnet red colour; the nose is well-defined, clean and complex with notes of rose, fine tobacco, mint and hints of liquorice; the taste is round, warm and full on the palate, revealing fresh spices and red berries with pleasant tannins obtained after maturing for 36 months in oak barrels. A pleasant aftertaste with fruit undertones.
Matching
Stewed and roasted red meats; game.
Winemaking Notes
From south-facing vineyards at an altitude of 380 metres above sea level, using the near-extinct Rosè sub-variety of Nebbiolo. Fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel vats with constant automatic remounting. Aged 36 months in Slavonian oak 40 hl barrels, then in bottle for a further 6 months. Only 4,000 bottles made.
