A superb, extraordinary fortified wine. Dry with an outstanding personality yet distinctive elegance.
The area of production of marsala is limited to the province of Trapani on the western edge of Sicily, which excludes the islands of Egadi and the commune of Alcomo.
Tasting Notes
A colour of golden hued old yellow with a nose of great finesse, with hints of almond and toasted honey. The taste is dry and harmonious, with a distinguished background of liquorice and vanilla.
Matching
Served cool it is a refined and original aperitif. It matches well with Parmesan or other mature cheeses.
Winemaking Notes
Obtained from the best vintages of Grillo grapes, harvested in those vineyards growing in the westernmost tip of Sicily on the Mediterranean coast, where the warm African winds gild the grape bunches. Gentle pressing before fermentation results in a robust and full-bodied base wine. At this stage grape alcohol is added to increase the alcoholic strength. This is the Marsala Vergine which is now left to age for more than 5 years in the age-old tufa cellars of Florio, to exalt its noble personality and its delicate harmony. The soils are mainly silcio-calcareous and clay-calcareous. The climate is very dry with approximately 500mm of rainfall annually. The vines are trained vertically and are pruned using the traditional "alberello" (bush) or spalliera methods.
