La Grola is considered by the Allegrini family to be their finest vineyard and is one of the most prestigious vineyards in the Valpolicella Classico area in terms both of history and position.
Growing in a single vineyard at 310 metres above sea level, comprising chalky clay soils which are also partly volcanic in composition, the vines have an average age of 22 years but, due to new plantings, some are considerably older.
This is a gorgeous, sumptuous blend of black grape varieties which combine to form a richly elegant red wine.
Tasting Notes
A full-bodied wine, intense and elegant. Deep ruby red in colour, it has a wide and embracing bouquet with scents of wild berries and juniper, tobacco and coffee essences.
Matching
It makes a perfect partner for red meat, either roast or in brown sauces, especially lamb. It is also delicious with stewed or grilled mushrooms and with mellow, aged cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C and open the bottle one hour before drinking.
Winemaking Notes
Grapes: Corvina Veronese 70%, Rondinella 15%, 10% Syrah, Sangiovese 5%.
Hand harvest carried out during the first ten days of October. De-stalking and crushing of the grapes followed by fermentation at temperatures of 20-28°C. Maceration time of 9 days with daily pumping over. Malolactic fermentation during the month of December after which the wine is transferred into wood. Matured in wood for 16 months and further matured in bottle for 10 months before release.
