Masi is the most famous Amarone producer in Italy. The originality of the techniques of "appassimento" (semi-drying) and double fermentation are applied to local grape varieties to produce this rich wine.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red colour, with a purple touch on the rim. The perfumes are very clean, with ripe fruit, raisins and spicy aromas, mainly cinnamon. On the palate the wine is round and offers complex aromas of ripe red fruits and berry-fruit preserve. The good acidity and soft tannins give the wine its easy-drinking style.

Matching
A wine of rare eclecticism, it goes perfectly with many different kinds of food such as pasta with rich sauces based on meat or mushroom, grilled or roasted red meats, game and mature cheeses.

Winemaking Notes
The wine is produced with the double fermentation technique perfected by Masi. Comprised of 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 5% Molinara grapes, the wine is fermented a second time with a certain amount of lightly dried whole grapes for about 12-15 days at 18-20 degrees C. Malolactic fermentation also occurs. The double process enriches the wine in alcohol, in colour, in extracts and in soft and elegant tannins, bringing also new flavours and perfumes.

The wine is then aged for 22 months in wood - two thirds in Slavonian oak barrels of 90 hectolitres and one third in Allier and Slavonian new barrels of 600 litres - then bottled where it is allowed to mature a further 4 months before release.

This is a wine which will age nicely over 15-20 years.
