The classic wine of the Abruzzo region on the Adriatic coast in the zone of the town of Controguerra. This fruity and flavourful red wine is made only from Montepulciano grapes, which clearly flourish in this environment.
From one of the most famous Italian wine producers. Dino Illuminati may be handing over operations to his grandson, Nicola, but he remains an extremely passionate man about his craft and the Illuminati wines reflect that.
Tasting Notes
Ruby red colour with hints of violet when young. Pleasant red fruits on the nose; darker flavours show on the palate with a touch of liquorice at the finish.
Matching
It is a great accompaniment to roasted or braised red meats, game, poultry, semi-matured cheese; ideal with lamb.
Winemaking Notes
Harvest takes place in late September to early October from vineyards approximately 260 metres above sea level. After a meticulous selection the grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and processed following the traditional method with a long maceration of the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 28°C. Once the malolactic fermentation is over, the wine is aged in 25-hectolitre barrels of Slavonian oak for about 7-8 months, then bottled and cellared for another 3-4 months before release.
