Legend has it that the soldiers of Locri, who defeated Crotone's larger, more powerful army in battle on the banks of the river in 560 BC, drew their strength from a wine made from the grapes of the Greco Bianco vine now used to make Cirò Bianco.
Tasting Notes
Clear, bright straw yellow in colour with greenish reflections. Strongly aromatic, with pronounced notes of citrus peel, such as mandarin and lime. The palate is reminiscent of pears and nuts with a rounded texture and a crisp, cleansing finish.
Matching
Egg dishes of all kinds, fish soup, and roast lobster or crab salad. It drinks excellently with all kinds of grilled fish, especially with swordfish.
Winemaking Notes
The vineyards are located at Ponta on the plain of Cirò, 120m a.s.l. and the soil is of a clayey, calcareous composition. Harvest is during the second week of September; grapes are destemmed before a gentle, cold pressing and are fermented cool in stainless steel tanks with temperature control.
