Podere dei Ginepri is a rare wine, not only a Gattinara but selected as one of the best wines in Italy. Amazingly delicate body and complexity.
Tasting Notes
Bright garnet with orange shade; the nose is complex, wide with scent of violets and small red fruits, coffee beans and cacao. The palate is fine, delightful, full bodied very well-balanced with a pleasant taste of mineral and spiced finish. Scheming wide tannins are impressive in this particular nebbiolo release.
Food Matching
Best with grilled meat, hunting game, aged cheese and also as an after dinner drink. Serving temperature: 18° C.
Winemaking Notes
“Podere dei Ginepri” in the town of Gattinara, with a total area of 6 hectares, at 300 metREs elevation; rocky soil, rich in minerals. One of the best vineyards of the entire Gattinara appellation with mainly southern exposure. The vineyard is 30 years old, with 4300 plants per hectare and the growing system is a traditional Guyot. The soil is mostly calcareous and clayey and the yield is less than 60 quintals of grapes per hectare. The harvested grapes are destemmed without crushing the raisins and then pressed gently. Fermentation is carried out at controlled temperature in oak vats for 12/15 days. The wine is then aged in large oak barrels, tonneaux and new barriques.
The 2001 vintage was a five-star vintage for Podere dei Ginepri vineyard.
