2003 Aleatico Salice Salentino DOC

Gorgeous sweet red wine from the southern region of Puglia.

The Aleatico grape variety makes fabulous wines but is too hard to find. Here in the hot summers of southern Italy the rich ripe fruit is used to make this super, slightly spicy, sweet red wine. Delicious!

Tasting Notes
Crimson in colour developing hints of amber with maturity. Broad, rich, penetrating and showing maturity on the nose. On the palate, medium sweet with a good acid backbone, velvety and delicious with dried raisin characteristics.

Matching
A wine with a strong personality, it stands up well to mature, strongly flavoured cheeses, dry pastries, almond and chestnut paste and roasted almonds. Also great with dark chocolate of course!

Winemaking Notes
Maceration at controlled temperature. Fermentation is interrupted by repeated racking to remove the yeasts. Matured in oak barrels.
