Santa Pia is La Braccesca’s single-vineyard flagship wine. The vineyard is near the border with Umbria; the climate is typically continental, with rain during winter. Nearby Lake Trasimeno moderates conditions both during the hot summers and cold winters. This wine comes from a single fifteen-hectare vineyard where the soil is red clay with plenty of stones.
Tasting Notes
Very deep in colour with red fruit aromas and hints of vanilla. On the palate, rich with an excellent structure and tannins well balanced and soft.
Winemaking Notes
100% Prugnolo Gentile.
Grapes from the vineyard ‘Santa Pia’ were destemmed and crushed and maceration took place over a period of 20 days during which time the wine also completed its alcoholic fermentation at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. The wine was then racked and completed its malolactic fermentation in new French and Hungarian barriques. Aged for a period of 15 months in barrique, during this time the wine was racked several times. 'Santa Pia' was then bottled and further aged for about 20 months before release.
