Record sales of Italian Wine in USA
Record sales of Italian Wine in USA: +16.2% in the first 8 months of 2005.
Annual sales of Italian wine in the USA are set to reach a billion US dollars in value for the very first time. This has emerged from data released by the Italian Food & Wine Institute which highlights the leadership of Italian wine in the American market.
Italian wine accounts for one third of the consumption of imported wine in the USA, followed by Australia with 25% and France with 20%. Australia is losing sales (-0.2%), while France has shown a slight increase (+2.2%).
The reason behind the rise is the increased quality of Italian wine, and also a 10% general growth in demand for foreign wine by Americans.
