Kerner
An aromatic white grape variety formed in 1929 by a cross of Riesling and Schiava. Commonly found in Germany, less so in Austria and quite rare in Italy's northernmost region of Alto Adige (Sudtirol) where it was only introduced in the 1970s. More robust than its parent Riesling, the Kerner vines bud late and so better survive the long cold winters of its mountainous habitats.|
