One of the top Italian red wines and certainly the best from this southern DOCG zone.
The great southern black grape variety, Aglianico, finds full expression here on the slopes of the volcanic Mount Vulture in Basilicata. The Basilisco vineyards are at an altitude of over 450 metres above sea level.
Tasting Notes
Ruby red in colour laced with deep purple; complex aroma of plums, blackberries and cherries; fully rounded on the palate with a long, nicely tannic finish.
Matching
A robust wine great with game and mature cheeses.
Winemaking Notes
Aglianico grapes harvested by hand in early October. 12-15 days of fermentation on the skins in stainless steel tanks is followed by transfer to French oak barriques - some new and some once-used. Up to 18 months in oak before bottling where the wine is allowed to mature another 12 months before release to market.
