2005 Guidalberto

  • Qty    Case of 6: £161.94

Guidalberto della Gherardesca, an ancestor of the Incisa family, lived in Bolgheri at the beginning of the 18th century.  He was a pioneer of modern agriculture in the Bolgheri area, influencing land drainage and viticulture in the area.  He was the first to plant vineyards in Bolgheri, and he also planted the famous ‘Viale dei Cipressi’, a marvellous avenue of cypress trees that runs for 5km from the strada statale to the village of Bolgheri.  The ‘Viale dei Cipressi’ is today a national monument.

The new 2005 vintage of Guidalberto includes a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards which produce this winery's famous big brother: Sassicaia.

Tasting Notes
A modern style wine with good structure and great balance.  The tannins are supple and fine, and will enable the wine to mature well in bottle.

Winemaking Notes
55% Cabernet Sauvignon
40% Merlot
5% Sangiovese

The wine was produced and matured in the building that was previously used for the production of the Tenuta San Guido’s olive oil.
The wine was fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel vats.  The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon were macerated on the skins for 15 days, and the Sangiovese was macerated on the skins for 12 days.
The wine was aged for 14 months in French and American oak barriques, one third of which were new.
