Falesco

This modern winery only came into production in 1989, fully ten years after its establishment close to the Lazio/Umbria regional border. The two Cotarella brothers (right) undertook painstaking research to identify the vines best suited to their soils and microclimate. The territory had previously been famous for centuries for its outstanding wines - the privilege of the Roman aristocracy and the Popes - but its fame had faded. Now employing some of the latest vinification technology, Falesco has gained a reputation for quality wines at all price levels. Riccardo Cotarella has a passion for making wines which has seen him gain fame as one of the foremost oenologists in Italy and beyond. Whilst Falesco's embrace of international grape varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon has not always earned the favour of purists, admiration is widespread and the brothers' work with the abandoned and low-yielding white grape Roscetto shows their commitment to indigenous varieties as well as to good winemaking.
