Weingut Gottardi
Bruno Gottardi has, in a relatively short period of time, gained a reputation as an excellent wine producer to go alongside his business skills as a wine merchant across the border in Austria. Here in the Alto Adige region of Italy, or the Sudtirol as many of the locals prefer to call this former Austrian province, in 1986 he bought Sarnheimhof - a winery located in the village of Mazzon to the south of the regional capital, Bolzano. Having replanted the vineyards and built a new winery, for some years now he has been producing superb red wines from the Pinot Nero grape variety, or Blauburgunder as they say in these parts.Assisted now by his son, Alexander, Gottardi produces Pinot Nero of Burgundian style and significance, realising his long-felt belief in the potential of this mountainous land as a winemaking region of great importance.
