This is one of the most exciting estates to have emerged from Italy in recent years. Its pedigree is faultless: the Allegrini family (right) from Verona teamed up with their U.S. importer, Leonardo Lo Cascio, and bought land in Bolgheri on the western coast of Tuscany. Here they now have 30 hectares of vineyard planted. They hired respected consultant Alberto Antonini to advise them on viticulture and winemaking. The vineyard they first bought is on the Bolgherese, next door to the famous Tenuta Ornellaia. In fact, the vineyard had previously been rented by Ornellaia.

Poggio al Tesoro has already leapt into the top rank of producers in Bolgheri.
