The Punset "azienda agricola" is located in the village of Neive in the Piemonte district of Italy. The Winery's name Punset comes from the Piemontese dialect and history and means "high hills or little mountain". The vineyards have been owned by the Marcarino family for many years, producing wine for family use. It was year 1964 when Renzo Marcarino decided to sell Punset wines.
Today the winery is run by Marina Marcarino, who is one of a few female wine makers in Piemonte and she is making the winery one of the top producers of the area. Over the 35 years that the winery has been marketing their products, they have developed methods and philosophy of making excelent wines at reasonable prices. The vineyards are controlled by an agricultural director, always following organic methods without using chemical pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers.
Punset is the only winery in the area that was totally converted to the growth of vines with organic certified methods and up to now it is the only winery able to produce certified organically grown Barbaresco.
All wines are certified by Ecocert Italia in conformity with the European low for organic products. Selected grapes from our vineyards become wines combining technology with tradition. Wines with typical characteristics of high quality and personality are reaching many markets with an encreasing positive reputation year by year.
Only the very best grapes picked in our vineyards are made into our wines. The Punset brand is becoming well know also thanks to specialised journalists of books and magazines. Many awards and recognition have been given to those wines lately and at least one of our Punset wines is awarded by important writers and competition annually. In 1994 the Barbaresco Punset was in "The Top 100 Wines of the Year" selected by "The wine Spectator", in the last three editions of the lWC Competition the Barbaresco Compo Quadro won the bronze medal.
