The 58 growers of the Cantina Produttori del Nebbiolo del Carema work a mere 17 hectares of terraced vineyards in northern Piemonte on the border with Valle D’Aosta. The main concern of the director of the winery is the difficulty in convincing the new generations to tend the small vineyard plots around this mountainous village. Carema is produced from 100% Nebbiolo and the wines are aged in large oak barrels for at least three years. The extreme conditions coupled with the noble Nebbiolo produce some of the most delicate and complex wines in northern Italy. The wines are true gems worth preserving.
