The landscape of Controguerra in the province of Teramo, located between the deep blue of the Adriatic Sea and the gorgeous mountains of the Gran Sasso, is renowned for its vineyards and its wines. History shows that the great warrior Hannibal discovered in Controguerra a resort and a wine which revitalized his troops. Around 1890, an impassioned master in the art of wine-making, Nicola Illuminati, set up the winery called “Fattoria Nicò”. He handed down, to his grandson Dino, his love for wine making. Dino Illuminati continued the cultural tradition of making good wine, employing the same skilled craftmanship of his illustrious grandfather. Now, in turn, Dino Illuminati's grandson, Nicola, has taken up the challenge of preserving the family's excellent reputation for producing some of the finest wines to come from this region. Producers of classic local wines from the Montepulciano and Trebbiano grape varieties.
